About This Site
Do you play Sid Meier’s Civilization? If you do, you’re probably familiar with many of the online communities: Apolyton, CivFanatics, and WePlayCiv. If you’re interested in multiplayer games, you’ve no doubt heard about Pitboss servers, and know of some of the downsides to using it.
PlayYourTurn.com is a website devoted to alleviating many of those issues. Pitboss games of Sid Meier’s Civilization IV can be registered with the site, and will get updated as events happen in game. Whenever someone logs in, ends a turn, whatever. It allows players to see the status of a game without logging in, and allows them to receive email updates for events they’re interested in.
PlayYourTurn.com is intended to be a successor to CivStats, which offers similar functionality. Sadly, CivStats has not been updated in over two years, and various issues still plague it’s users. I’ve started off with a fresh look, and an updated New Game menu that has settings for all the new civilizations and game options available with the latest expansion pack, Beyond the Sword. I’ve taken feedback from various people in the mutliplayer community, and have added features at their request. In the works are various other interesting features, including a score graph, which CivStats never seemed to get working.
I’m quite hopeful that this tool will make playing in Pitboss games a lot more enjoyable, and ensure that players are quickly informed when it’s their turn to log in to play.
About The Developer
Joseph Moskie is a Civ junkie, going all the way back to playing the original Civilization in sixth grade. I fondly remember the Zulu stomping my face in during one of my first games, and getting some of those anti-piracy history questions wrong, and having all my units mysteriously disband.
I’ve been playing Civilization for the majority of my life. When Civilization III came out, I spent a lot of time over at Apolyton, using the pseudonyms “Uber KruX” and “Inverse Icarus”. I played a prominent role in the first Apolyton Democracy Game, having been elected Supreme Military Commander several times. I also participated in various PBEM games, as well as the inter-site democracy game.
When Civ IV came out, I played in a few multiplayer games at Apolyton, as well as Master Zen Online. As I moved from New York to California to work, my interest in Civilization waned. Warcraft managed to consume me for a few years, but all throughout I usually had a Pitboss game running with my close friends.
Early last year, I quit Warcraft for good, and my interest in Civ shot up again. I started playing with more of my friends, and noticed how lacking Civstats was in some things. I talked it over with my friends, and decided to just go ahead and make PlayYourTurn.com.
I currently work as a Software Engineer for Cisco Systems in San Jose, California. I work with their IP Telephony software, but I’m still a gamer at heart.
For anyone who doubts that, there’s always this…
